Born Andres Arturo Garcia-Menendez in Havana Cuba His family moved to Miami Beach,
Florida when he was 5 years old. After attending Florida International University he spent
several years performing in regional theatre productions before moving
to Los Angeles in the late 1970s. His first television roles were in an episode of Hill Street Blues and in 1985's The Mean Season.
Andie's breakthrough role in 8 Million Ways to Die paved the way for his movie
career..
His performance in "The Godfather, Part III," earned
him an Oscar and Golden Globe Award nomination. That role, along with his
performance in "Internal Affairs" that same year, led to his
being named 1990 Star of the year by National Association of Theatre
Owners.
Garcia made his directorial debut with "Cachao...Como
Su Ritmo No Hay Dos (Like His Rhythm There is no other)." A
documentary film on legendary Cuban bass player and composer Israel
"Cachao" Lopez, co-creator of the Mambo, the film.
He married Maria Victora in 1982 after 7 years
of dating. They now have three daughters - Dominik, Daniella and Alessandra.
Andy Garcia is said to be very protective of his family's privacy.
